Hi everybody! Welcome to the Beeworld News page where we will list the latest happenings and events from the Hive.
As stated two years ago (!), we are really crap at this news thing!!! OK, we're still here and have actually been buzzing away behind the scenes ... new content has been added to Alex's Stuff:- Alex's Paper Dolls - specifically new Katy Keene comic; Bunty paper doll wardrobes; a Sindy colouring book, plus a new Sindy comic ... And coming soon (we promise!), some more Sindy paper dolls for all you fans to check out too.
On the 'Revolving Door' front, we are now on the Australian Screen website, with clips and comments and everything ... check it out if you get a chance.
From the 'Preston Leader August 30, 2011':
Alex and Dave Beasley's (sic) work, The Wall, is now beaming on the southern side of Northcote Town Hall. The piece is showing as part of Darebin Council's projectarT, which enables the projection of digital art on to the south wall of the Northcote Town Hall overlooking the Civic Square. Details: northcotetownhall.com.au.
We're really not very good at this 'news' thing ... a lot's happened, we're pretty busy ... we've been commissioned to do a site-specific video-loop for 'ProjectART' to be screened outdoors at night on the side of the Darebin Town Hall (~ October 2010); throughout July, a public-space-friendly version of "Revolving Door" - "Revolving Door - Gillian's Story" has been screening on "high rotation" on both the main and atrium screens at FedSquare as part of 'AUSthetic'; we're doing some more White Ribbon Day promo work as well as a YouTube clip for AFDO (Australian Federation of Disability Organisations) to coincide with election 2010; and, we've finally got around to putting up our own YouTube channel, so please feel free to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/BeeworldBuzz. Cheers!
Whoa! Hi gang - we're back, and welcome to a brand new year ... 2009, and February already - time flies when you're having fun.
On the puppy front, we decided to adopt Gonzo's sibling, "Phoenix", and eight weeks later, Phoenix and his newly adopted family are doing well.
The epic "Revolving Door" world tour continues (much to our delight!), being screened in competition at the 3rd International Short Film Festival 'Psarokokalo', Athens, Greece, February 1 - 8, 2009. Unfortunately, the film makers won't be in attendance ...
Alex has also expanded her paperdoll section of the eclectic Beeworld website ... check out the new Misty & Katy Keene pages, and watch her site as more content is being planned for the very near future.
Gonzo Hunter Beesley
04/09/2008 - 10/12/2008
Sad times at Beeworld, as Gonzo the puppy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Despite our brief time together, Gonzo brought an abundance of joy into our lives and we are privileged and enriched by having met him.
Gonzo's death was due to ingesting contaminated chicken breast strips that were subject to a recent voluntary product recall. The product in question is "Kramar SupaNatural Chicken Breast Strips", with our batch being '20 August 2008'. The full voluntary product recall notice can be downloaded here, or follow this link to the Kramar website for latest information.
Symptoms of poisoning include lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain, lack of interest in food or water, diarrea and respiratory distress. Please be aware that the not all of the above symptoms may be present, and that the onset of symptoms can be extremely quick. If concerned, please contact your local veterinarian immediately.
"VB on Tour 2008 - 2009" continues (Videobrasil on Tour), with screenings announced for Orinhos, Brazil; Guadalajara, Mexico; La Paz, Bolivia and Toronto, Canada in November. This means "Revolving Door" gets to travel to countries we can only dream about visiting! Is it possible to be jealous of a film? ; )
September has been abuzz with excitement, as Videobrasil launched 'FF>>DOSSIER037', profiling "The Beesleys" (!) - check it out - and, as if that wasn't enough, the beautiful, fully illustrated book "Re-imaging Animation: The Changing Face of the Moving Image" by Paul Wells & Johnny Hardstaff (AVA Publishing SA 2008) is released, with 'the Beesleys' & "Revolving Door" used as a case study in the chapter on 're-contextual documentary'.
'Revolving Door' is awarded runner-up 'Best Documentary Short' and runner-up 'Best Experimental Documentary Short' at the IFCT World Tour 2008 awards, Seattle, USA.
'Revolving Door' is awarded the coveted 'Bonehead Award' for Best Animated Short Film at the Bare Bones International Film Festival, Muskogee, USA.
'Revolving Door' gets its first national Australian television broadcast this month as part of the 'Shorts on Screen' series on SBS Television, Saturday March 22 at 23:15 (Eastern) - set the VCR!
Happy New Year! 'Revolving Door' screened at ACMI (Australian Center for the Moving Image) in Melbourne as part of the 'Australian Perspectives: animated documentary' program, which was a fantastic way to kick-off what is going to be another busy and exciting year.
Alex & Dave are continuing work on developing their current project 'The Tale of the Right Hand of Spider Lil', which is progressing well and promises to be another exciting and engaging piece. We'll keep you posted as the year progresses.
'Revolving Door' wins the 'HRAFF Jury Prize' at the inaugural Human Rights Arts & Film Festival held in Melbourne, Australia, December, 2007. All films were screened at the magnificent 'Capital Theatre' and the festival team did a fabulous job on what is destined to become a highly succesful annual event.
'Revolving Door' wins the Southern Panoramas Contemporary Investigations Acquisition Prize at the 16th International Electronic Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil, Sao Paulo, Brazil, October 7, 2007 - and what a fabulous festival it was too! Firstly, a big thank-you to everyone who has supported our short animated documentary "Revolving Door", and / or visited the companion website. We've been completely blown away by the response to the film, which has now screened at over 12 international film festivals throughout the world. For a complete list of festivals to date, please click here.
We have been given a small travel grant from the Australian Film Commission to attend the 16th International Electronic Arts Festival - Videobrasil, in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Oct. 1st - 25th 2007), and are in the process of raising money for the return tickets. As part of this fundraising effort we are selling a limited release of hand-signed and hand-coloured original frames from "Revolving Door", mounted and ready to frame. This is a unique opportunity to literally own a piece of this very original film, and every frame sold goes one step further in bringing Alex & Dave back home! Click here for more info.
